The kiddo's are looking well rested and rejuvenated from their vacation. Yesterday we reviewed some fraction material and we are jumping right into our Decimal studies. We will be ending the year with Geometry.
The homework for now is to continue practicing fact fluency. Any exposure you want to provide your student on decimal concepts would always be helpful. Have a great night! I hope you enjoy your vacation! Please continue to practice multiplication facts up to 12 X 12. Just 5 minutes a day can make a big difference!
This week students have been learning about creating and using line plots. Any reviewing or continued practice of this over vacation would be great. I'll attempt to add some examples/links to support you in this ongoing practice. Lastly, the kids did well with their bizarre today! They all took their monies home to reinvest in their next business adventure. We will be having our final bizarre May 29th unless there is a schedule conflict I'm am not currently aware of. All profits from this project will then be pooled and put towards purchasing something from the heifer international project to help a family or community in need. The students will be making their choice(s) the week of June 1st. I am thankful for the support you are providing your student at home with this. It has been fun and amazing to explore and grow in our businesses! Continuing practice with the distributive property and how it applies to multiplying fractions. Mrs. Cousino's class also need to reflect in their social studies journals about the discussion they had on the British blocking the Boston Harbor as they did their second simulation of the House of Burgesses. The vote was 5 to stand and fight with their brethren in Boston, 12 (?) to work hard at maintaining peace. (Hannah, do I have those numbers right?) What really happened - - The House of Burgesses passed a resolution of solidarity with Massachusetts. - Patrick Henry led a raid on ammunition supplies of the British Governor of Virginia. - The Governor of Virginia began gathering troops. - The first official battles of the American Revolution began in Massachusetts. Some leading questions that may be helpful: What would you have decided to do if you lived then and was a Burgess? Was a violent conflict necessary? Was it inevitable (couldn't be avoided)? What were Henry's (played by Maren) reasons for advocating war? Patrick Henry's (played by Maren) "Give me Liberty" speech strongly states that the war is in the cause of freedom. He even likens the colonist's situation to slavery. Do you agree? Thomas Jefferson advocated the colonies stick together against the British. What do you think of his idea? What might have happened if each colony had fought it's own separate war? Enjoy that wonderful sun out there! Tonight Mrs. Cousino's class needs to finish up their classwork papers and their homework page practicing the distributive property.
Mrs. Bohannan's class needs to finish up their classwork papers only. 4 x 2 1/2 4 x (2 + 1/2) (4 x 2) + (4 x 1/2) 8 + (4/1 x 1/2) 8 +( 4x1/1x2) 8 + 4/2 simplify that improper fraction! 8 + 2 = 10 Thanks Sarah C The goal is for Mrs. Cousino's class to host our bizzar sales Friday afternoon. |
